Metformin: Commonly causes diarrhea which sometimes necessitates discontinuing. Depending upon your level of glucose control there are other medications that certainly could be used. Discuss with your doctor who can follow you more closely, butt dpp-4 inhibitors are very good medications depending upon your level of control.

Possibly: You should discuss with your prescribing doctor regarding the side effect of metformin. There is a slow-release metformin which is less likely to cause diarrhea if you are interested. If you do start taking galvus, i recommend to monitor your blood sugars closely in the first few weeks and make sure they are controlled. Hope that helps!
