Depends: 1. If only PDA and baby was preterm and no other heart abnormalities then likely no. 2. If associated with other heart abnormalities there is a recurrence risk of 5% or less. 3. Sometimes congenital heart disease is due to a deletion in chromosome 22 but this could be tested.

Slightly higher risk: If you have a child with a PDA there is a slightly increased risk in another child for having a pda. We can close pda's safely with a catheter procedure. Pda's in prematurely infants are not likely to be closed by transcatheter techniques.
