What happens during eye surgery in premature babies?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

ROP?: I assume you're referring to retinopathy of prematurity? The issue is there is overgrowth of blood vessels in the retina that then constrict, causing a pulling on the retina. The surgery is a laser that zaps these blood vessels and eliminates the pulling. It doesn't harm anything except the vessels, being sent in directly through the lens.
