Laxative = bowels: A laxative effect means that whatever substance you ingest can help aid defecation (bowel movements) xylitol is known to be a mild laxative. Also, just the act of chewing can stimulate movement in the bowels that promotes bowel movements. Xylitol is not dangerous.

Xyletol: Xyletol may help remineralize very early smooth surface cavities. Will not prevent gum disease. Best thing, floss daily. 2nd best, brush 2x/day w pea-sized t'paste for 2 full minutes by the clock. Be sure to see Dentist twice yearly for evaluation and professional cleaning. All things in moderation, so don't overdue the gum chewing.
