Dr. Alvin Lin answered

U can't, not really: You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Does this 72yo have decision making capacity? Can s/he understand consequences of decision to avoid medical help? If demented, courts may need to assign guardian of person etc if family can't agree. But if s/he has all faculties, it's really up to him/her. Ask about health goals. What does s/he want? Not want? Yes or no to artificial means
