Not very: With modern techniques such as potent topical anesthetics and excellent technique along with modern delivery systems such as the dental wand, local anesthetics anywhere in the mouth can be done comfortably with little to no discomfort.

Painless: Or pain less. Dentist are trained to give painless local anesthesia. They use topical anesthetic and also the wand. It is essentially a computer-controlled dental injection and completely painless.
