Probably safe: Tattoo parlors have more regulations than ever making tattoo placement safer than ever. Today its one use ink, on use needle thus the days of contamination a batch of ink and using it on the next 100 patrons is over. So if you went to a quality licensed parlor with good honest artists you are safe.

Possible: If the tattoo needle was not sterilized well enough, it is possible that you may get HIV transmission from the contaminated needle. The risk however is small but not non-existent. Remember that the actress pamela anderson was said to have contracted hep c infection from sharing tattoo needle with her ex-husband.
