A member asked:

What causes creutzfeldt-jakob disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prion disease: Creutzfeld jakob is a disease caused by what are referred to as prions. These are small 'virus-like"(but not actual viruses) segments of genetic material that can be transmitted by eating raw flesh infected with the disease(occurs in cannibals) or transmitted via poorly decontaminated surgical equipment that had been exposed to such.
