Is a gastric band erosion common?

Gastric band: Band erosion is a very unusual complications of a lap band. It is thought to be related to either an undetected injury at the time of the original surgery, or related to patients 'mistreatment' of their band including continued smoking, regular vomiting, and over tightening of the band. Often the patient has been struggling with their band. Sometimes may experience a sudden lack of restriction.
