Hemithyroidectomy: Yes. If 1/2 your thyroid is removed, the other 1/2 will hypertrophy. Half a thyroid will make enough hormone to keep you normal....If...(big if) that 1/2 thyroid is normal, and not diseased. Why was part of the thyroid removed? If it was hashimotos, then the other 1/2 may be affected too, and may not be normal.
