A doctor has provided 1 answer

Erythema: All lumbar punctures have a small risk of causing infection. The skin at the site of puncture can be infected which may present as redness, pain, swelling and or foul smelling discharge. Rarely, lumbar punctures can cause meningitis which may present as headache, stiff neck, blurry vision, fever or severe back pain.
