ESR: This is a non-specific indicator of inflammation. The major things increasing ESR are increases in globulins and fibrinogen. The latter is a more common factor and can be caused by release of fibrin degradation products during dic (which may be subclinical). No diagnosis can be made from this lab value, and it should only be used in the context of full medical evaluations. Good luck.
