TMJ/TMD: The most common musculoskeletal disorder causing orofacial pain is a temporomandibular disorder (tmd). Tmd should be viewed as a group of related conditions that can be divided into disorders related to the muscles of mastication (muscular) and those emanating from the tmj. Earache is a common symptom due to the close location to tmj. Rec.: orofacial pain practitioner for diagnosis and treatment.

Probable TMJ not ear: Muscle spasm in the jaw joint in front of the ear can cause an earache. Reason Rx does not help is because you probably have a muscle spasm. The relief is to stretch it out - just like no amount of Rx can cure a Charlie-horse in your leg - only stretching it out works. Use moist heat on the side of your face just in front of the ear. When warm, SLOWLY exercise your jaw by taking it forward, then slowly open as far as you can, then slowly close. Repeat until you can open about 3 inches with no pain.
