Could be many things: The pain could be due to a temporary nerve injury caused by the blunt trauma (known as neuropraxia). It could also be bruising that is causing nerve irritation. I could also possibly be a tendon injury. Difficulty flexing your toes is likely due to swelling from the injury on top. I recommend you see a foot specialist for further evaluation.

Soft Tissue.: It certainly seems that the damage is isolated to the top of the foot. Swelling has interfered with normal soft tissue function including nerves and tendons. Depending on the age of the injury, ice elevation and rest may help. Older injuries may respond to heat. You may need to see a specialist if resolution does not come.
