Boxer's Fractures: Involve the 5th metacarpal bone in hand (@ the base of little finger). They often occur from striking a hard/immovable surface with closed fist. Failure to treat appropriately can result in poor/non healing of fracture with possible deformity, chronic pain, weak grip strength and poor hand funtion. Treatment requires assuring alignment of bone ends (setting) ; immobilization (splint/cast).
