Ice & Elevation: Hand injuries always cause pain. Keeping the injured part above your heart level as much as possible will minimize throbbing sensation. Ice applied, even through a cast or splint will also help. You can use Ibuprofen or acetamenophen every 4 to 6 hours. If these don't help then contact your doctor about getting some stronger pain medication. Use it carefully.

Treatment involves: Detailed diagnosis, splinting, casting or surgery to fix or hold the fracture. This is the best way to control pain, trat it appropriately. Within that ice, elevation, motion when permitted and nsaids or pain meds if needed.
