Pain medication: Take advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) (if you normally can) or what you would normally take for a headache. You should discuss what would be best for you with the dentist actually treating you, as he\she knows your medical history and what would probably be most beneficial based upon your specific dental situation.

Infection/pain: Discuss w your Dentist. You may require a different antibiotic. For OTC pain relief Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) tests highest...follow package directions EXACTLY. But best to discuss this w your Dentist as he/she knows your problem best. Antibiotic will not cure tooth infection, but will reduce extent of the infection. Actual dental treatment (root canal or extraction) probably required.
