Level of comfort: Whatever the anesthesia, this is a minor surgical procedure that should not hurt you while it is being performed. Many dentist do this procedure under local anesthesia (novacaine). Others prefer to use IV sedation. Discuss this with the treating dentist. I personally only use local anesthesia.

Dental anesthesia: Types of dental anesthesia for implants preparation depends on the patient. A local injection is necessary for basic anesthesia. You may also want something in addition, such as nitrous oxide or general sedation ( so you sleep through the procedure). It all depends on the preference of the patient.
