Feeling better: The main reason for cholecystectomy is acute cholecystitis. When stones pass they produce pain and with an impacted stone in the bottom of the gallbladder it can impinge of the cystic artery and cause severe inflammation. Removal relieves symptoms. When done laparoscopically symptoms post op are minimal.
