I had my gallbladder removed, how long should I wait to get a colonoptomy ?

Feeling better: The main reason for cholecystectomy is acute cholecystitis. When stones pass they produce pain and with an impacted stone in the bottom of the gallbladder it can impinge of the cystic artery and cause severe inflammation. Removal relieves symptoms. When done laparoscopically symptoms post op are minimal.

Benefits v. Risks: Most people do very, very well after having their gallbladder removed. Like any operation, there are risks associated with the surgery, yet these are rare. App. 20% may develop diarrhea after surgery, especially with fatty foods; however, this usually resolves in time. More importantly, the pain from gallbladder attacks that prompted the need for surgery will never return.

None really: Aside from surgical complications, living without a gallbladder is of no consequence for most people. Rarely people have some trouble with a high fat meal, which we avoid anyway. Surgical complications are rare, but can be serious in the very small number of people who sustain injuries to the common bile duct during surgery.

Life OK without GB: The gall bladder's job is to store bile, from the liver, & release it into the small intestine to digest fats. Without the gb, the liver still makes bile & directs it into the small intestine. People with gallstones have painful episodes of cholecystitis (inflammation of the gb) & do better without the gb. After gb removal 10-15% have irritation of the stomach/esophagus or diarrhea/colicky pain.

Semi: Bile is necessary but can still get there without gb in general. The volume and timing may be off, and some GI symptoms, may persist. In part depends on why it got diseased.

Removal Gall Bladder: I dont know why you want your gall bladder removed because you are sixty.There are certain medical indication for removal of gall bladder.You have to have symtomatic gall stones, or non functioning gall bladder due to other reasons, tumors, cancer etc.I f you do not have disease of the gall bladder you do not need to have gall bladder removed.Discuss it with your doctor.

Yes: It's best to avoid alcohol for 2 weeks after surgery, especially if you are taking any pain medicine with acetaminophen. There are no long-term dietary changes needed after gallbladder removal.

Maybe: You will be able to determine what you can and cannot eat when you try them. Some fatty foods may give you abdominal pain, or diarrhea. If so you will learn which foods do that, and then try to avoid them.
