Central & peripheral: That is a big question. When you talk about nerves generically, you could be referring to the neurons or nerves of the brain and spine-ie. The central nervous system. These connect with the peripheral nerves that travel out of the spinal cord and travel to the limbs and innervate the muscles. These are the named nerves like the median, ulnar, or sciatic. These have both motor and sensory component.
