Weight & body image: Bulimia typically involves intake of massive amounts of calories with purging to prevent weight gain; if no purging occurs, obesity is the inevitable result. Otherwise, weight usually is within the normal range, and many with bulimia do not have major distortions in body image. Anorexia requires body weight 85% or less of expected with disturbed body image; can re restricting or binge/purge.

Definitions: Bulimia nervosa is also an eating disorder. Those with bulimia nervosa usually binge and purge-purging means they force themselves to vomit. A pure bulimic would not binge eat, they would just purge after meals. Bulimia nervosa and eating disorders in general can be quite severe and even fatal. People can die from eating disorders which is why treatment is vital.
