Other causes: Cough from my viral infection may last days two weeks but if you don't have fever or shortness of breath running nose then other causes of cough must be ruled out. Other common causes are asthma, acid reflux or postnasal drip. Postnasal drip is common after a viral infection and may cause cough for weeks in which case cost suppressant's will not help. This is the likely cause in your case and is benign and self-limiting.
