It depends: The effects of a traumatic event (or any event) depend on the psychological meanings it holds for each individual person, based on his/her personal history and psychological makeup. If a current trauma stirs up feelings/memories connected with unresolved past traumas (consciously or unconsciously), we may well see a more extreme reaction than otherwise. There is no general answer. It all depends.
