There is some...: There is increased risk of thyroid disease if it is present in the mother. However, it makes a difference what type of thyroid disease. Automimmune thyroiditis would increase the chance of some type of autoimmune disorder in the offspring. Hypothyroidism in elderly not likely any increased risk.

Higher risk: In general, when there is autoimmune thyroid disease in the family, the risk to family members is higher than that of the general population. However, if you have grave's disease, that doesn't mean your child will get it even if thyroid disease develops. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is also seen within families who have someone affected with grave's disease.
