Few reasons: There are a few reasons why your mom could be hyperthyroid. This could be due to a nodule that is over-producing hormone, graves' disease, or hashimoto's thyroiditis. Of these, i favor the last one, as this can cause some fluctuations in the thyroid hormone levels. I would recommend that she see an endocrinologist who can do the correct blood tests to make the diagnosis, then set up treatment.
