Your dentist: Your dentist can determine whether or not you need root canal therapy on that tooth. The nerve in the tooth can either repair itself and the tooth will be fine, or it will become irreversibly inflamed requiring rct. Give it time and see what happens. Avoid very cold and hot foods for awhile. Sometimes i remove the filling, sedate the nerve with a temporary filling and wait 4-6 weeks.

Depends: Slight cold sensitivity after a filling may go away. More severe or constant pain usually means root canal therapy is needed!
