Severe ankle pain, massive swelling and bruising. can't move ankle. inconclusive mri. what does this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Severe sprain: This sounds like a third degree ( possibly second degree) sprain involving teating of the supporting ligament of the ankle and pooling of blood either into the musvle or the ankle joint itself. Obtain immediate orthopedic evaluation. Advise immediate rest, ice, compression and elevation, aircast splint and er if symtoms worsen. Ok to use advol or aleve (naproxen) for pain and swelling.
