Sometimes: Some dental insurance plans cover only basic preventive care. Other plans cover as much as 80% of the usual and customary fee for even the most sophisticated procedures. Have your dentist check your level of coverage, or call the insurance company's patient hot line. But whatever you do, don't delay treatment.

Usually: dental insurance covers decayed, missing, or broken depending upon time of coverage and percentage paid based on the group premium. It is usually less expensive for them to pay for a root canal to save a tooth than extract and pay for a bridge to replace the missing tooth.
