Cheaper, yes...: ... Extract the tooth. But that's not the best treatment. The best treatment is root canal therapy, and realistically, cheaper in the long run. Root canal therapy is not invasive. The instruments remain within the confines of your tooth. Fees are commensurate with the time and experience necessary to complete the procedure successfully.

Dental costs: If a tooth has gotten to the point it requires root canal therapy to save, then you have two options. 1- rct and restoration or 2-extraction (with or without replacement). In the long run you will have big expenses no matter what you do. Even though extraction is the least expensive initially, unless you go without teeth, replacements will equal or exceed rct costs.
