Diabetes: Diabetes is a condition in which the blood sugar, if not treated properly, is higher than the normal range. There are three different types of diabetes. At your age it is probably type 2 diabetes when your pancreas makes a lot of insulin but not enough to control your blood sugar. If you think (or know) you have diabetes go to your family doctor as soon as you can.

Good answer but I would not limit the cause to just carb and sugar -eating anything more than one needs would lead to weight gain which leads to insulin resistance.

Type II Diabetes: is from lifestyle choices, i.e., poor diet w/lots of junk food, lack of exercise, etc. The body makes insulin but it doesn't get into the cells and we cannon make ATP for energy. Type I Diabetes is when the pancreas does not make insulin and is typically diagnosed early on in life.
