Why can't you?: Check this site to learn to do a breast exam: http://www.breastselfexams.org/self-exams/women-s-self-exams. Additionally, ask your physician to instruct you. Your physician can exam when seen for follow up.

Annually: If fm hx, prior chest irradiation or child hood malignancy as early as age 20, but 30-40 for others. Also, you need to learn your breast and self exam for changes. If you find something, time for professional confirmation.

A 28-year-old male asked:
What is the definition or description of: breast exam?

Self vs. Clinical: A clinical breast exam is performed by a health care provider. A visual inspection and manual palpation are performed to look for abnormalities.
A breast self exam(bse) is when a woman checks her own breast tissue once a month. This is done to get to know one's own unique lumpiness and be able to identify when something is abnormal or feels different.

Not sure why you: Can't examine your breasts. If it is not possible, then your partner can be taught to do a breast exam. Your physician can also perform a breast exam.
