Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is a label or diagnosis based on meeting certain criteria of symptoms. I would be more interested in figuring out the root causes of those symptoms that are adding up to cause the person to experience those symptoms. A functional medicine approach is ideal for this.

Yes: Can 16 y.o. have fibromyalgia (FM)? Several studies have identified FM in children, and these children often have Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS). Review the Brighton Criteria. The relationship of FM & JHS is not as well known by US Rheumatologist as by doctors abroad, especially British and Italian. My medical opinion is that the familial nature of JHS explains the familial nature of FM.
