Can't be 100% sure: But what you're describing sounds a lot like the early signs of a cold sore. These are typically caused by a strain of the herpes virus that about 80% of people carry in their system. People usually get them when they are run down, or stressed (or have a "cold"). If you want to be pro-active, you can ask your doctor for a prescription for an anti-viral medication like "valacyclovir" which can help.
