Should be fine: Once ophthalmologist evaluates and tells you that you are fine, you should be fine.

No: A retinal tear does not have to affect your vision in the short term, but may lead to a retinal detachment and subsequent loss of vision. You need to have a dilated exam by an ophthalmologist in order to determine if there is a retinal tear/detachment.
