How much tissue is removed for biopsy during egd? how many long until full recovery (e.g., days until risk of serious bleeding is gone)?

Not much: The number and amount of tissue removed with a biopsy on egd depends on the underlying pathology, but typically is very small. Recovery is very quick and the risk of serious bleeding is minimal unless you take blood-thinning medication.

Depends: A biopsy is not always taken. If taken it is a small bite, smaller than the tip of your little finger. Depending on the lesions biopsied, bleeding may last a day or so. See this site for more info on egd and discuss it with your doctor as a lot depends on why you are having an egd.
