A member asked:

Ultrasound showed thickened uterine wall. would your uterine wall thicken if it was an ectopic pregnancy?

Consideration: Of ectopic pregnancy begins with a positive pregnancy test and absence of an expected pregnancy in the uterus. A thickened uterine wall is not considered part of this scenario. Adenomyosis, where endometrial gland tissue extends into the muscular part of the uterus can cause uterine wall thickening, pelvic pain, and abnormal bleeding. Benign uterine tumors call leiomyomas can do this too.

No: If the uterine wall is uniformly thickened, it indicates that the uterine wall- thickening effect of your body's estrogen has not been adequately opposed or counteracted by the thinning (sloughing) effects of progesterone. So there is a good chance you have not been menstruating normally. You may need hormonal treatment. Ectopic pregnancy would be outside of the uterus.
