All of the above: The symptom is nonspecific. At 40 years if age, unlikely to be a hiatal hernia large enough to cause symptoms. I would definately see a primary care provide for a more complete evaluation. Hope this helps!

Anxiety sx: Anxiety usually would have a waxing and waning feeling, be associated with other sx of anxiety like, sweating, increase heart rate, short of breath. A hernia is usually a burning, associated with eating and anxiety would only occur if you then worried about the pain. You could have both, with panic occurring after a minor heartburn.

Most likely yes: How big is your hiatus hernia. Most of the time hiatus hernia is silent , inother words , has no symptoms. Tension is the most likely is your problem, but you should see a GI doctor.
