A member asked:

Need help docs! my 11yr has an alt level of 83. they did ultrasound but what does this mean? why are they so high?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

High ALT=cell injury: Alt elevation often means that the liver has been injured. The list of conditions that cause alt elevation is very long. Some conditions are temporary (like many viruses) and some will only get worse unless treated. Your pediatrician will keep running tests until they find an answer or until the alt normalizes. Often a pediatric gastroenterologist will aid in finding the answer.
