Otitis externa with severe jaw pain is this typical?

Can happen: External otitis can be very painful and cause jaw pain. If the pain is increasing and you are already being treated for the ear infection, it could be a sign that you are developing a cellulitis outside the ear canal. Should have it checked.

Yes: Ear pain is a frequent cheif complaint when a patient has TMJ or myofacial pain. The head and neck area is very complex in its innervation. Consider that we all developed from a microscopic dot. The head developing first.. Structure that are seemingly a distance appart can be closely related embryologically and the innervation and pain referral paterns are complex.

Yes: Not common, but possible. Once otitis external treated, jaw pain should disappear. If not, it may be a TMJ problem. If so, see a TMJ specialist.

Yes: Yes, an ear infection can cause jaw pain. As the infection gets treated, the jaw pain should also resolve, if not consider being seen.
