Treatable: It is always treatable but best detected early. Follow all the instructions on home care to the letter and ask your dentist about Periostat (doxycycline) which affects the bacteria's ability to destroy bone.

Absolutely: At your age, it is easy to treat an incipient or advanced periodontal disease. Schedule an appt. With your dds for an evaluation. Either s/he or a hygienist should perform a thorough cleaning and take diagnostic x-rays to assess your condition. They should also teach you proper tooth brushing/flossing techniques and home care. If your case is advanced, referral to a periodontist is in order.

Periodontal Disease: Consider yourself lucky if you're diagnosed early. In this generation, it is just heartbreaking if we get an emergency, e. G., a patient with a tooth on his/ her palm that came off due to bone loss that started with periodontal disease. It could have been prevented! with extensive bone loss, ideal implant cannot even be achieved especially if it is an upper molar approximating the sinuses.

Definitely, yes: Periodontal disease is treatable at all stages; however, treatment is the most effective during the early stages. Schedule an appointment so that your dentist can diagnose and treat periodontal disease before it progresses.

Absolutely: Periodontal disease is very slowly progressive, but it's a geometric progression (a little today, more tomorrow, a lot the day after). The sooner it's addressed the easier, quicker, and less expensive it is to treat. Please call your Dentist, or a qualified Periodontist, a gum/bone specialist.
