Disc pain: After you have had the appropriate workup with x-rays, etc, chiropractic manipulation may offer temporary relief. Over the counter analgesics and nsaids (e.g., motrin, anaprox). Surgical intervention may be ultimately required.

Back pain: Talk to your physician. Disc problems will often resolve by themselves in a 6 week period of time. You are 21 and you are at a time in your life that your disc is most soft and "squishable". Do 6 weeks of physical therapy and perform strength exercises for your back. Also, if you sit alot at work make sure to get up frequently and look into an ergonomic chair.

See a Dr.: Back pain needs to be taken seriously. If you wait to see a dr., or just mask with meds, it could get worse or create a permanent problem. Conservative therapy might work now, but not necessarily later.

Treatment: Find an osteopathic doctor (od) that is trained in manual manipulation. An alternative is to find a physical therapist that is trained in manual manipulation of osteopathic techniques.
