Yes: Having poor mechanics in your foot leads to increased stress on your knees, hips and back and can cause damage to them. Orthotics are designed to help correct these poor mechanics and decrease the stress on your joints.

No, but...: There is no good evidence that orthotics will ever "correct" an arch. Not wearing these would not be expected to worsen any "hypermobility" of the ankles/knees/etc, but if they do reduce pain, then continuing to wear them when upright would be encouraged.
