Yes: Typically, first line treatments for a torn rotator cuff are nsaids, physical therapy, and steroid injections. If you're still symptommatic after those treatments, or if the tear is massive, then surgery would be the next step.

Usually not.: If it's a complete tear, there usually is no alternative. Consult with an orthopedic shoulder specialist , to see if there may be an alternative for you.
