A member asked:

Please help docs! is lactose intolerance a mutation, or is the tolerance a mutation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusing question: Since lactose is the sugar in human milk, it is the norm to have the enzyme to digest it. Some appear to lose the enzyme as they get older, some never have it (mutation) and some lose it transiently during illness but it may return.
