URI: May be viral, in which case antibiotics of no value. Antibiotics may be effective in eradication of bacterial causes, but the inflammatory changes persist for lengthy time periods. Symptoms may be due to those changes including congestion which may require treatment. Rarely you may have a resistant bacterial cause, but this is quite unusual.
