A member asked:

If we both are healthy and young then how healthy ivf baby could be? is there any risk of physical or mental issue?

Healthy: There are no increased chromosomal risks with ivf, assuming that there are no hereditary conditions in either yours or your husband's family that could be passed down. If the problem with infertility is a mechanical one, and not due to eggs or sperm, then likelihood of a healthy baby very high. Best of luck.

Unclear: It is unclear whether ivf babies have a higher risk of birth defects. The risks in the population are about 3-4% and in ivf studies 3-8% so there may be a slight increase. Ivf pregnancies, and all pregnancies after infertility, have more complications during pregnancy. Most studies show that over time, ivf babies have similar health to normally conceived children.
