A member asked:

Having sharp pain that comes in goes in lower to mid section on back about an inch or two from spine...could this be something with my kidneys?

Possibly: The kidneys are just below the lower ribs on both sides. Kidney stone pain is usually a several cramping type pain. Pain here could also be from the large back muscles on both sides. Other internal organs could be a source of pain. If severe or persistent see your primary provider or even urgent care/emergency room.

Yes it could: Extremely sharp pain that is one sided could be your kidney but it could also be your back. See you internist to determine if a kidney specialist consult is warranted. If that is cleared and you continue see you orthopaedic spine specialist.
