Depends on problem: Transvaginal ultrasound, pap smear, and pelvic speculum and manual exam, and regular abdominal ultrasound are useful to detect gyn problems. However, it all depends what the working diagnosis is that needs to be confirmed by the best test available if warranted. You may need to have your left hip pain evaluated further, and see whether or not it's related to your miscarriage history, or any other pelvic/abdominal procedure you've had done in the past.
