High calcium: High calcium is a calcium concentration above the recommended norm - normal values range from 8.5 to 10.2 mg/dl. If it is higher than 10.2, there are different reasons for that. First, recheck to make sure it was not a lab error. If it was not, check PTH (the parathyroid hormone) as most cases of elevated calcium are caused by a benign tumor in the parathyroid gland hyperstimulating its secretion.
