Keep an eye on this: It would be very unlikely to occur in such a young person, but the symptoms you describe, depending on how long they have been present, suggest the early stage of shingles, caused by chicken pox virus. If a red rash with a cluster of small blisters appears in the next few days, he should be prescribed an anti-viral medication by his pediatrician or pcp right away. Otherwise, he needs to be seen.

How long?: It can be from a nerve problem and less likely shingles at this age. See your doctor.
