Several options...: For burning sensation. May be from injury, oncoming shingles flare, or early infection. Would see your doctor if this persists or worsens or of there are any other concerns such as fever. Good luck!

Keep an eye on this: It would be very unlikely to occur in such a young person, but the symptoms you describe, depending on how long they have been present, suggest the early stage of shingles, caused by chicken pox virus. If a red rash with a cluster of small blisters appears in the next few days, he should be prescribed an anti-viral medication by his pediatrician or pcp right away. Otherwise, he needs to be seen.

How long?: It can be from a nerve problem and less likely shingles at this age. See your doctor.
